What Is Dithiophosphate 25S?

Dithiophosphate 25S (DTP-25S) is a selectivity-enhanced variant of the standard DTP-25 formulation. The “S” designation indicates a selectivity-optimised blend, typically achieved through adjustment of the alkyl chain composition of the DTP actives toward shorter chains or through the inclusion of additional selectivity-modifying components. DTP-25S is designed for flotation circuits where elevated pyrite or pyrrhotite content in the ore makes iron sulphide control critical for achieving acceptable concentrate grades.

Selectivity in High-Pyrite Circuits

DTP-25S performs comparably to DTP-25 for target sulphide mineral recovery (copper, gold, lead, zinc) while showing reduced activity on pyrite and pyrrhotite. This makes it preferred in operations treating pyritic ores or in circuits where the penalty for pyrite dilution in concentrate is high — such as copper concentrates with smelter pyrite penalties, or gold flotation circuits where pyrite represents a major mass pull component.
