DPG in Rubber Compounding
Diphenylguanidine is one of the oldest and most widely used secondary rubber accelerators. When used alongside primary thiazole or sulfenamide accelerators, DPG activates the cure system, improves crosslink efficiency, and extends scorch safety at elevated processing temperatures. It also acts as an acid scavenger, helping to stabilise compounds containing carbon black or silica fillers with acidic surface chemistry. DPG is particularly important in silica-filled tyre compounds, where it plays a dual role as accelerator and silanol neutraliser.
Regulatory Note and Supply
DPG releases aniline during vulcanisation, a substance subject to occupational monitoring. Terracore supplies DPG in 25 kg paper bags or powder bulk bags. Granulated form is available to reduce dust exposure during handling. Full COA and SDS with occupational hygiene requirements are provided.
Applications
- Secondary accelerator for NR, SBR, EPDM
- Activator for thiazole and sulfenamide accelerators
- Tyre carcass and sidewall compound
- Mechanical rubber goods
- Footwear sole compound
