Potato Fibre Feed Grade Supplier South Africa

What is Potato Fibre?

Potato fibre is a by-product of potato starch and potato protein extraction, consisting of the cell wall material from potato cells. It is a predominantly insoluble dietary fibre source with good water-binding capacity, making it effective for stool quality improvement and gut motility support. Its composition includes cellulose, hemicellulose, and some pectin, providing a combination of insoluble and lightly fermentable fibre fractions.

Role in Animal Nutrition

In pet food, potato fibre improves stool consistency and quality, reducing the incidence of loose stools and improving owner satisfaction metrics. Its water-binding capacity moderates intestinal transit and helps manage diarrhoea in dogs and cats. In swine, potato fibre supports gut fill, gastric fermentation, and sow satiety in gestation diets. In broilers, insoluble fibre from potato sources stimulates gizzard development and improves feed particle size reduction, supporting overall digestive efficiency.
