What Is Potassium Chloride (MOP)?

Potassium Chloride (KCl), commonly known as Muriate of Potash or MOP, is the most widely produced and traded potassium fertilizer in the world. It contains 60–62% K₂O and is available in both granular and standard grades. MOP is the most economical source of potassium for high-volume fertilizer blending programs and is compatible with urea, MAP, DAP, and ammonium sulphate in dry blends.

MOP in Fertilizer Blending

MOP dominates potassium supply in blended NPK manufacturing due to its high K₂O analysis and competitive cost per unit of potassium. It is available in granular form for use in bulk blend facilities and in standard (coarse crystal) form for compound fertilizer granulation. The chloride content in MOP can be a consideration for chloride-sensitive crops, where Potassium Sulphate (SOP) or Potassium Nitrate are preferred alternatives. For most arable crops, MOP is the potassium source of choice.

Sourcing MOP From Terracore
