Maleic Anhydride as a Core Resin Monomer
Maleic anhydride (MA) is one of the most important industrial organic chemicals, consumed primarily in unsaturated polyester resins used in fibreglass composites for marine, construction, and automotive applications. It reacts readily with polyols and diacids to produce the ester backbone, and its double bond provides the crosslinking site for styrene polymerisation. MA is also used to produce succinic anhydride, malic acid, and a range of maleate/fumarate co-monomers.
Supply and Packaging
Maleic anhydride is hygroscopic and reactive with moisture. Terracore supplies in sealed, moisture-barrier bags (25 kg) and prill/briquette form. ISO container supply is available for large volumes. Reactive chemical handling protocols and full SDS/COA documentation are provided.
Applications
- Unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) monomer
- Alkyd resin modification
- Maleic acid and fumaric acid hydration
- Agricultural chemical and herbicide production
- Lubricant additive and ashless dispersant
- Paper sizing and textile auxiliaries
