Benzyl Benzoate in Pharmaceuticals and Fragrance

Benzyl benzoate is a naturally occurring ester found in balsam of Peru and tolu, now produced synthetically at scale. Its primary pharmaceutical application is as an acaricide and insecticide in topical formulations for treating scabies and head lice. In the fragrance industry it is used as a fixative for floral and oriental perfume compositions. Its miscibility with a wide range of solvents and low toxicity profile make it a useful pharmaceutical excipient for poorly soluble APIs.
