TIPA in Cement and Resin Applications
Triisopropanolamine is used at low dosages (0.01–0.05%) in cement grinding to improve mill output and early compressive strength. Its hydroxyl groups interact with cement particle surfaces, reducing agglomeration and improving particle size distribution. In resin chemistry, TIPA reacts with fatty acids and polybasic acids to form alkyd and polyurethane intermediates with improved flexibility.
Availability and Forms
TIPA is typically a mobile liquid at ambient temperature (mp ~12 °C) and may solidify in cool storage. Terracore supplies in 200 L drums. Grade documentation includes purity by GC, hydroxyl value, and colour. SDS is provided with each shipment.
Applications
- Cement grinding and strength additive
- Alkyd and polyester resin synthesis
- CO₂ absorption (gas treating)
- Cosmetic emulsifier and pH adjuster
- Corrosion inhibitor formulation
- Lubricant additive
