EVE as a Reactive Vinyl Ether Monomer
Ethyl vinyl ether is a highly reactive vinyl ether that undergoes cationic polymerisation, Lewis-acid catalysed reactions, and free-radical copolymerisation. Its alkyl vinyl ether group is used as a protecting group for hydroxyl functions in organic synthesis under mild acid conditions. In polymer chemistry EVE is incorporated into fluoropolymer chains to control crystallinity and improve processing. It also forms alternating copolymers with electron-poor monomers such as maleic anhydride.
Storage and Safety
EVE is a flammable liquid with a very low flash point, requiring explosion-proof storage at low temperature with inhibitor present. Terracore supplies in 180 kg steel drums or in pressurised gas form. SDS provides storage, inhibition, and fire-fighting requirements. COA confirms purity, water content, and inhibitor level.
Applications
- Fluoropolymer (PVDF, ETFE) co-monomer
- Cationic polymerisation substrate
- Anion-exchange resin synthesis
- Organic synthesis building block
- Specialty adhesive monomer
- Protective group reagent in synthesis
