nBVE in UV-Curable and Flexible Polymer Systems
n-Butyl vinyl ether is widely used as a reactive diluent in cationic UV-curable formulations, where it reduces viscosity and participates in chain transfer with photo-generated acid to give films with good flexibility and chemical resistance. Its copolymerisation with maleic anhydride, fumaric acid, or fluoromonomers produces thermoplastic copolymers with tailored Tg and solubility. The butyl side chain imparts useful plasticising effect and reduces brittleness in vinyl ether homopolymers.
Packaging and Availability
Terracore supplies nBVE in 180 kg steel drums. Material is alkaline-stabilised and should be stored below 25 °C away from acids and oxidisers. COA reports purity (GC), acidity, and peroxide content. SDS is available.
Applications
- Flexible polymer and copolymer synthesis
- UV-curable reactive diluent
- Release and non-stick coating systems
- Fluoropolymer film comonomer
- Cationic photopolymerisation systems
- Specialty adhesive and sizing
