Magnesium Sulphate in Agriculture and Industry
Magnesium sulphate heptahydrate (Epsom salt) is an important source of both magnesium and sulphur in agricultural applications. Magnesium is a central atom in the chlorophyll molecule, and deficiency causes interveinal chlorosis; MgSO₄ can be applied both as a soil amendment and as a foliar spray for fast correction. In the textile industry it fixes reactive dyes on cotton and acts as a dyebath electrolyte. Pharmaceutical-grade Epsom salt is a well-established osmotic laxative used in bowel preparation and as a soaking remedy for muscle aches.
