Silane Coupling Agents for Rubber Reinforcement
Bifunctional silane coupling agents bearing triethoxysilyl groups and polysulfide or mercapto functionality are essential in modern tyre technology. TESPT (Si-69, bis[3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl] tetrasulfide) reacts with surface silanols on precipitated silica to create a covalent silica-rubber network, dramatically improving rolling resistance and wet grip in passenger-car tyre treads. Sulfur-functional silanes are also used with carbon black to improve filler-polymer interaction in demanding rubber applications.
Grades and Supply
Terracore supplies TESPT (Si-69) and TESPD (Si-75) grades in 200 L steel drums and IBC totes. COA includes active sulfur content, ethanol content, viscosity, and refractive index. SDS with ethanol off-gassing handling requirements during mixing is provided.
Applications
- Silica-reinforced “green tyre” tread compound
- Carbon black-rubber coupling enhancement
- Mining conveyor belt compound
- High-performance industrial hose
- Coupling agent for silica in SSBR/E-SBR
- Adhesion promoter for carbon black composites
