What Is Dianiline Dithiophosphoric Acid?

Dianiline dithiophosphoric acid (DADTPA) is a diaryl dithiophosphoric acid in which the two alkyl groups of a conventional dialkyl DTP are replaced by phenyl (aniline-derived) groups. This aromatic substitution significantly changes the electronics of the dithiophosphate group, producing a collector with different selectivity and adsorption characteristics compared to dialkyl DTPs. The aromatic rings reduce the electron density at the P=S/P-S adsorption site, making the compound more selectively active on noble metals and copper minerals while showing reduced activity on iron sulphides.

Application in Precious and Base Metal Flotation

Dianiline dithiophosphoric acid is used in gold, silver, and copper flotation applications where standard alkyl DTP collectors show insufficient selectivity or collection strength. It functions as a primary collector or co-collector depending on ore type. In some gold operations it is used as a “polishing” collector in cleaner flotation stages to recover fine gold that escaped the bulk collector. Its acidic form can require pH adjustment at the point of addition to ensure adequate ionisation and collector activity in alkaline flotation circuits.
