What is Vitamin E Acetate?

Vitamin E Acetate (DL-alpha-tocopheryl acetate) is the esterified, stabilised form of Vitamin E used in animal feed supplementation. The acetate group protects the tocopherol from oxidation during feed manufacturing and storage, while the ester is cleaved in the intestine releasing biologically active alpha-tocopherol. It is the most commonly used feed-grade form of Vitamin E and is supplied in both spray-dried beadlet (50% activity) and liquid (98.5%) forms.

Role in Animal Nutrition

Vitamin E is the primary fat-soluble antioxidant in cell membranes, working synergistically with selenium to protect polyunsaturated fatty acids from peroxidation. In poultry, high vitamin E supplementation enhances immune response, vaccine efficacy, and disease resistance, and reduces incidence of exudative diathesis and encephalomalacia. In swine, vitamin E is critical for preventing mulberry heart disease and hepatosis dietetica in combination with selenium. In beef and pork, vitamin E improves meat colour stability by reducing myoglobin oxidation, extending retail shelf life.
