What is L-Valine?
L-Valine is a branched-chain essential amino acid (BCAA) that animals cannot synthesise and must receive through dietary intake. Feed-grade L-Valine is produced by fermentation and supplied as a white crystalline powder with a purity of at least 98.5%. As the fourth limiting amino acid in corn-soybean meal diets for broilers and swine, it has become increasingly important in low-protein diet strategies.
Role in Animal Nutrition
In poultry, valine limitation becomes particularly evident when lysine, methionine, and threonine have already been supplemented and crude protein is reduced. Adequate valine supports breast meat yield, feed conversion, and the regulation of protein turnover through its role as a BCAA. In swine, valine balancing helps unlock the performance potential of low-protein diets and reduces nitrogen excretion to the environment.
