What Is Monoammonium Phosphate?
Monoammonium Phosphate (MAP) is a high-analysis, water-soluble fertilizer supplying 11% nitrogen and 52% phosphorus pentoxide (P₂O₅) in a single product. Its acidic pH when dissolved in water makes it an effective phosphate source in alkaline soils where phosphate fixation is a concern. MAP is produced by reacting ammonia with phosphoric acid and is widely used as a building block in compound fertilizer manufacturing and water-soluble NPK blends.
MAP in Fertilizer Blending
MAP is one of the most commonly used phosphate raw materials in dry fertilizer blending. Its granular form is compatible with urea, potassium chloride, and other standard blend materials. The high P₂O₅ analysis means less product is needed to deliver a target phosphorus rate compared to lower-analysis materials. For water-soluble NPK blends destined for fertigation or foliar application, crystalline MAP is the phosphate source of choice due to its complete solubility.
