Gum Rosin as a Renewable Tackifier and Resin

Gum rosin is a natural resin obtained from pine trees by tapping, comprising predominantly diterpene acids (abietic acid and its isomers). It is an important platform material in adhesives and coatings, used directly as a low-cost tackifier in rubber-based adhesives and soldering fluxes, and as the starting material for esterified rosin tackifiers (pentaerythritol and glycerol rosinate) that provide improved thermal stability and colour in hot-melt and pressure-sensitive adhesive applications.

Grades and Supply

Terracore supplies WW (Water White), WG (Window Glass), and X grades sourced from Southeast Asian producers. Available in 25 kg kraft-paper sacks or 225 kg fibre drums. COA reports colour (USDA grade), acid value, and softening point. SDS is provided.

Applications

  • Hot-melt and pressure-sensitive adhesive tackifier
  • Rosin ester synthesis feedstock
  • Soldering and flux formulation
  • Rubber compounding tackifier
  • Paper and paperboard internal sizing
  • Soap and polish manufacture
