2-Chloroethyl Vinyl Ether in Polymer and Pharmaceutical Chemistry
2-Chloroethyl vinyl ether is a bifunctional monomer combining a polymerisable vinyl ether with a reactive chloroethyl group. In polymer chemistry, the pendant chloride can be used for post-polymerisation functionalisation via nucleophilic substitution, enabling the attachment of amine, thiol, or azide groups to create functional polymers for biomedical and coating applications. In pharmaceutical synthesis it serves as an alkylating agent and building block for a range of active intermediates.
Handling and Supply
2-Chloroethyl vinyl ether is a flammable liquid with irritant properties. It is supplied inhibited in 180 kg steel drums. Storage below 15 °C in darkness is recommended. Terracore provides COA (assay by GC, acidity, stabiliser content) and SDS with each shipment. End-use documentation may be required for pharmaceutical-synthesis applications.
Applications
- Specialty copolymer and terpolymer synthesis
- Pharmaceutical synthesis building block
- Crosslinkable polymer precursor
- Functional vinyl ether comonomer
- Alkylating agent in synthesis
- Agrochemical intermediate
