Methyl Vinyl Ether and Its Copolymers
Methyl vinyl ether (MVE) undergoes free-radical copolymerisation with maleic anhydride in a 1:1 alternating copolymer known commercially as Gantrez® AN. This copolymer and its hydrolysed/esterified derivatives are used in denture adhesives, hair-fixative resins, pharmaceutical mucoadhesive coatings, and ion-exchange resins. MVE homopolymer has been explored in specialty adhesive and release-coating applications.
Supply and Handling
MVE is a liquefied flammable gas supplied in pressurised cylinders. It requires gas-service fittings and cold-chain handling. Terracore coordinates specialist transport and can supply in small cylinders or larger vessels depending on volume requirements. Full SDS and TDG documentation is provided.
Applications
- MVE-MA copolymer (Gantrez®) synthesis
- Denture adhesive and dental impression material
- Specialty adhesive and binder
- Pharmaceutical film-coat polymer
- Surface-active coating agent
- Ion-exchange resin precursor
