VDF and the PVDF Polymer Family

Vinylidene fluoride is the monomer for polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), one of the most important high-performance fluoropolymers. PVDF combines outstanding chemical resistance with piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties. Its current highest-growth application is as a binder in lithium-ion battery cathode slurries, where it provides strong electrode cohesion and electrolyte resistance. PVDF is also used in chemical processing equipment linings, ultrafiltration membranes, and architectural coatings.

Supply and Handling

Vinylidene fluoride is supplied as a liquefied gas in pressurized cylinders or ISO containers. Terracore coordinates specialist fluorochemical logistics for this product. Handling requires gas-service fittings and appropriate ATEX-rated equipment. Full SDS and TDG documentation is provided.

Applications

  • PVDF polymer synthesis (Kynar®, Solef®)
  • Li-ion battery cathode binder (PVDF)
  • Chemical-resistant membrane production
  • High-performance coatings and linings
  • Piezoelectric films and sensors
  • Fluoroelastomer copolymer feedstock
