Aziridine as an Industrial Crosslinker
Aziridine (ethylenimine) is a highly reactive three-membered nitrogen heterocycle used at low dosages as a crosslinker for carboxyl-functional polymers including polyurethane dispersions, acrylic dispersions, and paper coatings. It reacts with carboxylic acid groups on the polymer chain to form amide crosslinks, dramatically improving water resistance, solvent resistance, and mechanical strength. Polyfunctional aziridine crosslinkers are the most common commercial form, typically supplied as solutions in dipropylene glycol or water.
Safety and Regulatory Compliance
Aziridine (and its derivatives) are classified as carcinogenic and are subject to strict occupational exposure limits. Terracore supplies only polyfunctional aziridine crosslinkers in diluted, safer-handling formulations. All transactions require end-use disclosure, and supply is restricted to industrial customers with appropriate industrial hygiene controls in place. Full SDS and COA accompany every shipment.
Applications
- Crosslinker for polyurethane dispersions
