EDA as a Chelant and Industrial Intermediate
Ethylenediamine is one of the most important difunctional amines in the chemical industry. Its condensation with chloroacetic acid produces EDTA, the most widely used chelating agent globally. EDA is also the basis for imidazoline-type corrosion inhibitors essential in oil and gas production. In coatings, it accelerates epoxy cure at low temperatures, and in pharma it appears in antihistamines, antiprotozoal drugs, and antifungal agents.
Supply Information
EDA is a flammable, corrosive, sensitising liquid requiring careful handling with nitrile gloves and eye protection. Terracore supplies in 200 L HDPE-lined steel drums. SDS includes dermal sensitisation hazard information. COA reports amine content by acid-base titration and water content by Karl Fischer.
Applications
- EDTA and NTA chelant synthesis
- Imidazoline corrosion inhibitors
- Epoxy curing agent
- Textile and leather auxiliary
- Pharmaceutical API synthesis
- Fungicide and herbicide production
