什么是果胶？

Pectin is a naturally occurring structural polysaccharide found in the cell walls of plants, particularly abundant in citrus peel and apple pomace from which commercial pectin is extracted. Its backbone consists of galacturonic acid units partially esterified with methanol. Two main types are used: high-methoxyl (HM) pectin, which gels under acidic and high-sugar conditions, and low-methoxyl (LM) pectin, which gels in the presence of calcium ions and is suitable for low-acid and low-sugar applications.

In companion animal nutrition, pectin is one of the most widely studied functional fibres for managing acute and chronic diarrhoea through its water-binding, gel-forming, and prebiotic properties. Pectin is highly fermentable, producing significant SCFA levels that nourish colonocytes and modulate gut microbiome composition. In aquaculture, pectin improves feed water stability and pellet integrity. Research in livestock also shows pectin’s capacity to lower blood cholesterol and modulate lipid metabolism through enterohepatic recirculation of bile acids.
