Fumed Silica in Coatings and Composites
Fumed silica is produced by flame hydrolysis of silicon tetrachloride and consists of primary silica particles fused into three-dimensional aggregates with very high surface area. Hydrophilic grades with abundant silanol surface groups provide strong thickening and thixotropy in polar systems such as polyurethane adhesives, water-borne paints, and epoxy resins. Hydrophobic grades (methyl- or polydimethylsiloxane-treated) are used in polyolefin and silicone systems where water absorption must be minimised.
Karakterer og levering
Terracore offers fumed silica from standard 50–200 m²/g hydrophilic grades to specialty hydrophobic surface modifications. Material is supplied in multi-wall paper bags (typically 10 or 15 kg net, high-bulk packaging) on pallets. COA reports surface area (BET), loss on drying, and pH.
