What Are Caustic Soda Pearls?

Caustic soda pearls are spherical or near-spherical granules of sodium hydroxide (NaOH), typically 0.5–2 mm in diameter, produced by prilling molten NaOH through a spray nozzle into a cooling tower. The pearl form achieves higher purity than flakes (typically ≥99% NaOH), produces significantly less dust during handling, and flows more uniformly in automated feeders, screw conveyors, and volumetric dosing equipment. They are the preferred solid NaOH form wherever consistent flow and low-dust handling are priorities.

The rounded pearl shape gives caustic soda pearls superior flow properties compared to irregular flakes — they resist bridging in hoppers, feed consistently in loss-in-weight feeders, and dissolve rapidly in dissolution tanks.
