Sodium Gluconate Supplier South Africa

What Is Sodium Gluconate?

Sodium gluconate is the sodium salt of gluconic acid, produced by fermentation of glucose. It is a mild, non-corrosive compound with strong chelating and sequestering properties, capable of binding calcium, iron, copper, aluminium, and other multivalent cations across a wide pH range. In animal nutrition it is used as a mineral carrier, electrolyte supplement, and gut health promoter.

Mineral Chelation and Gut Health

The chelating activity of sodium gluconate improves the solubility and bioavailability of trace minerals in the digestive tract, reducing antagonistic interactions between minerals such as calcium-zinc or iron-manganese competition. As a mild prebiotic, gluconate is fermented by lactobacilli and bifidobacteria in the hindgut, contributing to short-chain fatty acid production and beneficial microbiome modulation.
