What Is Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate?

Sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC, SDIC, sodium troclosene) is a chlorinated isocyanurate compound that serves as a stable, dry source of available chlorine. On dissolving in water, NaDCC releases hypochlorous acid (HOCl) — the active antimicrobial species — along with the isocyanurate carrier (cyanuric acid) which acts as a stabiliser that buffers the available chlorine in solution against UV degradation. NaDCC provides approximately 60–62% available chlorine by weight, more than calcium hypochlorite (~65%) on a comparable basis, and is far more stable and easy to handle than liquid chlorine or hypochlorite solutions.
