What Is Dithiophosphate BS?

Dithiophosphate BS (DTP-BS) is a higher-strength DTP formulation in the commercial DTP collector series, typically containing a blend of medium to long alkyl chain DTP actives at higher total concentration compared to DTP-25 or DTP-25S. The “BS” designation reflects its broad-spectrum collecting profile — it is designed to provide high recovery across a range of sulphide mineral types, including those (like zinc sphalerite or arsenopyrite) that may require stronger collector action than short-chain DTPs provide. DTP-BS is used where collection strength is the priority within DTP chemistry.

Applications in Complex Ore Circuits

DTP-BS is typically employed in circuits treating complex polymetallic sulphide ores containing multiple target minerals (copper, lead, zinc, gold) where a single high-strength DTP collector provides broader coverage than selective-grade formulations. It is also used in bulk sulphide flotation ahead of selective separation stages, where maximum recovery from the rougher circuit is more important than concentrate grade at that point. In some operations, DTP-BS is used as the sole collector in mill-addition dosing, with selectivity achieved by downstream depressant addition rather than collector selection.
