What is Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin)?

Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin in its supplemental form) is the most structurally complex vitamin and the only one containing a metallic element (cobalt). It functions as a cofactor for only two known enzymes in mammals: methylmalonyl-CoA mutase (essential for odd-chain fatty acid and amino acid catabolism) and methionine synthase (converting homocysteine to methionine). Feed-grade B12 is supplied as a 1% dilution on carrier, providing 10,000 mcg of cyanocobalamin per gram.
