Choline Chloride Supplier South Africa

What Is Choline Chloride?

Choline chloride is a quaternary ammonium salt supplying the essential nutrient choline, classified as a B-vitamin. Choline is a precursor to phosphatidylcholine — a critical structural component of cell membranes — and to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. It also functions as a methyl donor in one-carbon metabolism and is essential for fat transport from the liver, preventing fatty liver syndrome in poultry and swine.

Importância Nutricional

Choline deficiency in poultry causes perosis (slipped tendon), poor weight gain, and accumulation of fat in the liver. In swine, deficiency results in impaired reproduction, poor litter performance, and liver dysfunction. Although ruminants synthesise some choline in the rumen, dairy cows under high production benefit from rumen-protected choline to support liver function during the transition period.
